The RHIA-VO Program already has a winning project: ClimaSalud-IA, an artificial intelligence solution to anticipate the effects of extreme heat on patients with chronic diseases.

Promoted by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), ClimaSalud-IA was the winning proposal of all those received in the call for proposals, which was open from October 27 to November 26.

In response to challenge 1 of the call, it proposes a solution based on Artificial Intelligence that helps the stratification of people with chronic diseases according to the degree of vulnerability to climate change. Its purpose is to prevent and mitigate the adverse effects on the health of this group.

To this end, this solution integrates meteorological, environmental and clinical data to anticipate the effects of extreme heat on this type of patient. The tool makes it possible to identify vulnerable people, support clinical decision-making and improve care planning during heat episodes.

As the winning proposal, it will carry out a demonstrative pilot under the framework of the Program at the Hospital Universitari MútuaTerrassa during January and February 2026. It will be deployed in a specific service of the hospital, with trained professionals, defined protocols, monitoring and impact metrics.

The team has solid technical profiles from the UPC and IRIS, with proven experience in biomedical AI, data analysis, health interoperability and predictive models. This is another example of the value of connecting research, business and public sector to advance towards high impact solutions and real application in the Catalan healthcare ecosystem.

This initiative, within the framework of the RETECH 2025 Program, is coordinated by the Fundació Leitat, the Fundació MútuaTerrassa per a la Docència i la Recerca Biomèdica i Social and the Cambra Oficial de Comerç, Indústria i Serveis de Terrassa, with the support of the Departament d’Empresa i Treball de la Generalitat de Catalunya and the co-financing of the Next Generation EU funds through the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (MRR) of the Government of Spain.

CALL: Hospital Artificial Intelligence Challenge in the Vallès Occidental (RHIA-VO) _Extended deadline!

This call represents a unique opportunity for Catalan entities that want to carry out a pilot/testing of their AI-based solution in a hospital environment. A maximum of two winning proposals will be selected, which will also have specialized support and access to ad hoc advisory services to promote the scalability and effective transfer of their solutions to the system.

The aim is to improve the quality of care, efficiency and sustainability of the Catalan health system, while creating a space for collaboration between hospitals, emerging companies and technological agents.

The program “Hospital Artificial Intelligence Challenge in the Vallès Occidental (RHIA-VO)” is an initiative coordinated by the Leitat Foundation in collaboration with the Mutua de Terrassa Foundation for teaching and research and the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Terrassa, subsidized by the Department of Business and Labor of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Recovery and Resilience (MRR) of the Government of Spain. BioMed Pre-Incubator Kick-Off Day

Inaugural day and first training sessions for participants in the BioMed Pre-Incubator, Medical and Biotechnological Innovation Incubator.

BioMed is a pre-incubator of projects linked to the biomedical sector, promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, managed by the Leitat Foundation and KIMbcn, and co-financed by the European Union (#PRIMER Program). It focuses on the development of innovative solutions in biomedicine and medical technologies. This area includes the creation of advanced medical devices, the integration of disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence and Big Data, as well as research in biotechnology applied to health as a pre-incubation lever within the health and biomedical ecosystem of Catalonia.

Introduction to Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its application in professional environments.

Specialized hands-on training to explore the use of Generative AI in R&D for hypothesis generation, literature review and synthesis of scientific information. Tools to automate the writing of scientific and technical documents, including articles, patents and research project proposals. Application of AI in the analysis of large volumes of data, accelerating the detection of patterns and the optimization of writing and grant applications.

Pitch & Beers

Exclusive event with limited capacity in which entrepreneurs, investors and attendees shared their experiences and exchanged knowledge during the networking space, which also helped expand their network of contacts, another key factor for the success of an innovative project.
